It is crucial to get the right members to have a successful book club.
Start small - We started with 3 members, and then each invited 1 guest that we thought would really appreciate it and contribute good thoughts.
Do trial runs - If you are unsure if someone will be the right fit for the group, have a "guest spot" where you rotate inviting a guest until you have someone that fits really well. But BE SURE to communicate to your guest that this is a TEMPORARY seat and that another member gets to invite their guest next time.
We know how challenging it can be to get a group of adults to meet regularly. Likely, not each member will be able to make it to each book club. But we have found a group of women who see the value and significant positive impact that our book club has provided!
We meet once a month and have found that to be an appropriate time between books. We often schedule in advance by a couple months to make things easier. You may find it easier for your group to meet quarterly instead, so be sure to communicate on what works best.
A favorite book doesn't necessarily make it a great book for discussion. While other books may not be the best read, but provide ample topics to discuss! Many times, we have found to personally dislike a book, however we had AMAZING group discussion from it.
